Today my first book, Leaving Christian Science: 10 Stories of New Faith in Jesus Christ, releases. It’s almost like I’ve been in labor for months and the baby has just been born! Thank you so much for your support, friendship, and love. I appreciate having the freedom of speech to write such a book and feel honored to have been able to record these incredible stories of faith. Below, I’d like to share with you a recent interview with Katherine Beim-Esche, director of the Fellowship of Former Christian Scientists that explains a little more of the process that was involved in writing this book:
In my book, Leaving Christian Science: 10 Stories of New Faith in Jesus Christ, author I share the complicated journey of leaving the religion and comprehending biblical Christianity.
With each in-depth interview, I felt overwhelmed by the arduous process it can often take to step away from Christian Science teachings,” says Hunter in the book’s introduction.
In these ten intensely personal narratives, former Christian Scientists bravely recount their journey out of the religion and into authentic, biblical faith in Jesus Christ. Each chapter addresses a different theme, shining light on theological inconsistencies taught by Mary Baker Eddy in her book Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures. These themes include matter, the body, God, Sin, Mary Baker Eddy, Jesus, prayer, the Holy Spirit, contagion, and the Bible.
Each story of leaving Christian Science was hard won; no easy recoveries or lightning-bolt moments here, just one small step after another made in the hopes that truth could be found.”
With reflection questions, pastoral teaching, related Bible verses, and a guiding letter from the author, each story navigates common obstacles and paves the way for a deeper understanding of the Christian faith.
